Melbourne: A teenager had a close call when a bullet came flying into his home during a gang-related shooting. The 15-year-old was in the bathroom when the bullet hit his bedroom and got stuck in his mattress. Talk about luck!
His mom was understandably shaken, saying they were “very lucky to be alive.” She added that if he had been in his room, things could have turned out much worse. The family was caught in the crossfire of a targeted hit on a known crime figure, Hawre Sherwani.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire late Thursday night. The bullet that nearly hit the boy came through his second-story window. His mom described the scene as chaotic, with everyone crying and in shock.
She expressed concern for the community, saying, “Someone walking in the street could be a victim … This has to stop.” Sherwani, who had a history with the Comanchero motorcycle gang, was found with a gunshot wound after trying to seek help at a nearby house.
Local residents attempted to help him, but he later died at the hospital. Police found bullet casings and a gun at the scene, and they believe the shooter may have been injured while fleeing in a stolen vehicle.
Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson assured the public that this was a targeted attack and there was no need for local residents to fear for their safety. However, the police are concerned that this incident could lead to more gang violence.
If anyone saw what happened or has any footage, they’re encouraged to reach out to Crime Stoppers. It’s a tough situation, and the community is hoping for some peace soon.
