Melbourne: A Swiss national is in hot water after being caught with a massive stash of cocaine. Authorities say they found around $8 million worth of the drug in his luggage.
It all went down when Australian Border Force officers picked him for a baggage check after he flew in from Los Angeles. They discovered the drugs hidden in 20 black plastic bags inside his suitcase.
In total, they seized about 25 kilograms of cocaine. That’s a lot! Detective Superintendent Simon Butcher mentioned that this amount could have been sold in nearly 125,000 street deals.
He pointed out that despite the risks, people still try to smuggle drugs into Australia. The authorities are working hard to keep these substances out of the community and stop criminals from making a profit.
The man, identified as Reda Raghay, 21, appeared in court and is facing serious charges for possession and importation of cocaine. He’s currently in custody and will be back in court on March 31.
