Norwich: A swimming teacher has been banned for drinking wine before class. Liam Knight was found swigging rose wine straight from the bottle. He fell over while teaching young pupils in the school pool.
Witnesses reported that he slurred his words and had bloodshot eyes. He struggled to focus and stay oriented in the water. A bottle of wine was later discovered in the staff toilets.
Mr. Knight admitted to drinking the wine during his lunch break. He likely consumed it in a nearby park before his lesson at Drayton Junior School. He had just started working there in September 2023.
Just a month into his job, he brought alcohol to school. He also took medication that made him drowsy, which he didn’t inform his managers about. This combination affected his ability to teach safely.
During the lesson, he was unsteady and couldn’t speak clearly. He failed to take a headcount or do a register, which was unusual for him. He admitted he wasn’t fit to be responsible for his class.
The tribunal found him guilty of misconduct. They banned him from teaching for two years, stating his actions fell short of professional standards.
