Guildford: This morning, Surrey is dealing with some serious flooding issues. After a weekend filled with snow and heavy rain, the Environmental Agency has put out 19 flood warnings for the area. And guess what? The flooding has already caused a multi-story car park in Guildford to close.
The local council announced that the Bedford Road Multi-Storey car park had to shut down its first level because of water from the River Wey. This spot usually gets hit hard when the town center floods, and today is no exception.
According to the Guildford Borough Council, they said, “Bedford Road Multi-Storey Car Park Level 1 is closed due to flooding. The rest of the car park is still open. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
It’s really important to close car parks that are prone to flooding to keep vehicles safe from damage. With the Bedford Road car park closed, there might be some delays in the town center.
If you’re planning to visit Guildford, it’s a good idea to use other car parks that aren’t at risk of flooding, like those on York Road, Leapale Road, or Sydenham Road.
The Environmental Agency has some advice for folks in flood-prone areas: move your loved ones, pets, and valuables to higher ground or the upper floors of buildings. Also, if it’s safe, turn off your gas, electricity, and water, and set up any flood protection equipment you have.
