Diggers Rest: So, billionaire Adrian Portelli is in a bit of a pickle with his hooning charges. His court case got delayed because his lawyer called out the prosecution for trying to sneak in some surprise evidence. Talk about a plot twist!
Portelli, who’s 35, is facing some serious charges like careless driving and losing control of his car. This all stems from a police stop back in December 2020. Apparently, he was doing doughnuts in his partner’s fancy Mercedes on a rainy day. Not the best idea, right?
His lawyer, Penny Marcou, really went after the police officer’s story, saying it didn’t add up. She pointed out that the officer’s statements changed over time, which made it seem like he was either confused or just making things up. Ouch!
And get this, she even claimed the officer only impounded Portelli’s car after realizing he was a wealthy guy. The officer denied knowing who Portelli was at the time, which just added more drama to the courtroom.
Marcou also criticized the officer for not gathering enough evidence, like eyewitness statements or even checking the car’s computer system. She was pretty fired up about it, saying there was a big gap in the evidence because of the lack of investigation.
Things got even more heated when she interrupted the prosecutor’s questioning, saying she was shocked by his attempts to bring in body camera footage. The prosecutor was trying to use Portelli’s comments during the stop as proof of guilt, which Marcou found outrageous.
After all that back and forth, the case got pushed to next year. Outside the courthouse, Portelli’s fans were buzzing, looking for a hidden can of his unreleased energy drink that he had stashed away before heading into court. Classic Portelli!
Oh, and just to add to the chaos, Portelli is also facing unrelated charges in South Australia for allegedly running an illegal lottery. This guy sure knows how to keep things interesting!
So, the hooning case is on hold for now, but it looks like there’s plenty more drama to come in the new year.
