Maryland: So, here’s the scoop. Tom Goldstein, the guy behind SCOTUSBlog, just got indicted on some pretty serious tax charges. It’s a wild story, really.

Apparently, he’s been accused of dodging taxes for years. Prosecutors say he used cash from his law firm to cover his gambling debts. And we’re talking big money here.

The indictment claims he lost over $16 million gambling between March and August 2017. Can you believe that? That’s a lot of cash to lose!

Goldstein’s also known as a high-stakes poker player, often playing in games with huge pots, both in the U.S. and overseas. The indictment says he owes more than $5.3 million in unpaid income taxes. Yikes!

His lawyers are standing by him, saying he’s got a great reputation and that they’re disappointed with how quickly the government moved on these charges. They believe he’ll clear his name in court.

Goldstein isn’t just any attorney; he’s argued over 40 cases before the Supreme Court, including some big ones like Google v. Oracle. He even teaches about Supreme Court litigation at Harvard.

It’s a developing story, and I’m sure we’ll hear more about it soon. Stay tuned!
