Manchester: So, there’s some exciting news in the supermarket world! A supermarket has started offering lower prices than Aldi and Lidl for a basket of essentials. They’re now matching prices on over 500 products, which is pretty impressive.

Recently, we found out that both Morrisons and Asda are actually beating those budget stores in our weekly price checks. It’s a big change since these retailers have faced some heat for their prices in the past.

Morrisons has been stepping up its game, especially with its More Card offers. They’ve expanded their price match scheme, which kicked off in February 2024, to include even more products.

Right now, Morrisons is the go-to for the cheapest essentials in our weekly comparisons. They’ve added over 100 popular items like coffee, eggs, and olive oil to their price match list, making it easier for shoppers to save.

Gareth Lloyd, who’s in charge of pricing at Morrisons, mentioned they’re really focusing on value for customers as they head into 2025. He said this expansion means more essentials at prices people expect, all while keeping the quality high.

They’ve been rolling out savings and rewards throughout the year, aiming to help shoppers get more bang for their buck.

Now, Aldi has always claimed that their products are of higher quality, especially when it comes to things like tea bags and coffee. They argue that their price match schemes only cover a small fraction of what other supermarkets offer.

An Aldi spokesperson emphasized that their customers save significantly every time they shop there, which is why they’ve been named the cheapest supermarket for three years in a row.
