West Yorkshire: A giant sinkhole has unexpectedly become a tourist hotspot. Locals are having a laugh, leaving funny reviews on Google about this new “attraction.”

One person joked, “Superb hole. I wonder how many of these it would take to fill the Albert Hall?” It’s a cheeky way to cope with the situation.

Another review said, “Make sure to check it out before the council fills it in. The kids loved it, and my wife was over the moon!”

This massive hole opened up on the A646 Halifax Road, between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, after an underground pipe collapsed. It’s been closed since December 13.

Calderdale Council had hoped to reopen the road by Christmas Eve 2024, but delays have pushed that back. Now, they’re aiming for one lane to be open with traffic lights by January 13.

However, the cold weather has caused more delays, and the road will stay closed until at least January 27.

Despite the hassle, locals are making the best of it. One review said, “It’s worth a day trip, and it’s free!” Another added, “This is the best hole this side of Hebden Bridge!”

One person even joked, “I canceled my trip to Giza for this!”

Another reviewer quipped, “Rumor has it you can see it from space! Amazing hole! Good job, hole!”

The sewer causing the issue belongs to Yorkshire Water, while Calderdale Council is responsible for the culvert. Both have been asked for comments.

In a world where the mundane becomes viral, this sinkhole joins a list of quirky attractions. Just last November, a car left in a ditch became an accidental art piece.

And let’s not forget the infamous halved tree in Sheffield, which has drawn crowds from all over. People are flocking to see it, even though homes in the area are worth around £220,000.

One reviewer, who gave it three stars, said, “Not worth a long drive, but if you’re nearby, it’s worth a look.”
