Glasgow: Nicola Sturgeon recently shared that she knows “nothing more” about the police investigation into SNP finances than she did when she was arrested over 18 months ago.

She mentioned that the investigation, part of Police Scotland’s Operation Branchform, is still ongoing. Sturgeon said she’s just trying to get on with her life as best as she can.

Her arrest came after her husband, Peter Murrell, and the former SNP treasurer, Colin Beattie, were also questioned. While Sturgeon and Beattie were released without charges, Murrell was charged in April for alleged embezzlement.

After her release in June 2023, Sturgeon firmly stated she was “innocent of any wrongdoing” and has kept that stance since then.

When asked if she had any updates on the investigation, she simply replied that she has nothing new to share and can’t comment further.

Police Scotland confirmed the investigation into SNP finances began back in July 2021. They recently presented their findings to the Crown Office and are waiting for further instructions.

Sturgeon, who has been an MSP since the Scottish Parliament started in 1999, has submitted her nomination papers for the upcoming 2026 Holyrood election. She’s not made a final decision yet but is not planning to step away from politics just yet.

She assured that she would make her decision in good time, whether to confirm her candidacy or let the party choose someone else.
