Hampstead Norreys: Hundreds of starlings flew over the town on Sunday evening. It was a stunning sight as they soared in the sky.
The birds came from all directions, merging and splitting into beautiful patterns. They eventually funneled back into the trees to roost.
So, why do they do this? During winter, many starlings migrate to Britain for its milder weather.
As dusk falls, they gather for their communal roost. This creates one of nature’s most amazing displays.
As the flocks grow, they form incredible shapes, swirling and changing in the sky. It’s a mesmerizing sight.
When the light fades, the starlings settle down to sleep. Similar displays have also been seen in nearby Newbury and Thatcham.
