Selkirk: So, Stuart Hogg just got sentenced for some pretty serious stuff. He was in court on Thursday and ended up with a community payback order. Plus, he’s got a year of supervision hanging over him.
Now, Hogg, who’s playing rugby in France these days, can’t contact his ex-wife, Gillian, for five years. That’s a non-harassment order right there.
He admitted to shouting and swearing at her at home, saying she wasn’t ‘fun’ if she didn’t want to go out drinking. Not cool at all.
People have described him as ‘angry’ and ‘controlling.’ It sounds like Gillian was really scared of him. She even said she’d pray for morning to come when he’d sober up.
He was tracking her movements with an app on her phone and would grill her about who she was hanging out with. That’s just way too much.
This went on for years, and when their marriage fell apart, he bombarded her with over 200 texts in just a few hours, even after she asked him to back off.
He’s had trouble before too, breaching bail conditions by contacting her while waiting for trial, and he got fined for that.
Lynne Barrie, the Procurator Fiscal, made it clear that Hogg is now facing the consequences of his actions. She emphasized how serious domestic abuse is and how it affects victims and their kids.
She’s urging anyone in a similar situation to speak up. They’re ready to help and make sure justice is served.
