Strong Winds and Heavy Rain Persist on B.C.’s South Coast
On Boxing Day, strong winds and heavy rain leave many in B.C. without power as stormy weather continues to impact the region.

Vancouver: So, it’s been a wild Boxing Day in British Columbia. Strong winds and heavy rain are still causing chaos, leaving many folks without power.
As of 10 a.m., BC Hydro reported around 1,600 customers were in the dark. That’s a big drop from the 5,000 who lost power on Christmas Day. Still, it’s no fun for those affected.
Environment Canada is warning that wind gusts could hit between 70 to 90 kilometers per hour in places like Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria. It’s definitely not a day for a stroll!
Plus, there are rainfall warnings for Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound, and Squamish. If you had plans to head out, you might want to think twice.
BC Ferries has also jumped in with travel advisories. They’ve canceled sailings between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands because of the high winds. So, if you were planning a ferry trip, check ahead!
And if you’re in the mountains, be careful! The Coquihalla Highway is getting about 15 centimeters of snow, while Highway 3 is seeing around 30 centimeters. It’s a winter wonderland, but not the best for driving.
