Belfast: Storm Éowyn caused major power cuts in Northern Ireland. Over 285,000 homes and businesses were affected by winds over 95 mph.
As of Monday morning, about 400 customers still lack power. NIE Networks is working hard to restore electricity.
Derek Hynes, the Managing Director of NIE Networks, assured everyone that crews are focused on getting power back today.
He noted that Storm Éowyn was unprecedented, marking the first red weather alert in Northern Ireland. One-third of properties lost power.
Hynes thanked those affected for their patience, especially those without electricity for days. He acknowledged the extensive damage that delayed repairs.
NIE brought in around 350 engineers from the UK and Europe to help restore power. Their efforts were crucial in getting electricity back on.
As repairs wrap up, NIE warned of potential short outages for permanent fixes in the coming days. Safety is their top priority.
Hynes praised the hard work of the NIE teams, highlighting their endurance and dedication during this challenging time.
He also expressed gratitude to families of staff for their support, knowing how vital it is to restore power after storms.
This week, the focus will be on completing permanent repairs, which may require some temporary outages.
Storm Éowyn impacted 30% of NIE’s customer base, but efforts continue to reconnect everyone.
