Glasgow: A beloved tree has been knocked down by Storm Eowyn. The Darnley Sycamore, which has been around for over 400 years, fell today around noon.
Winds reached up to 90 miles per hour, causing the tree to collapse near Nitshill Road in the Darnley area. It was planted by Lord Darnley himself.
This tree has a special connection to Mary Queen of Scots. Legend has it that she and Lord Darnley sat under it while he was recovering from an illness.
They were staying at Crookston Castle before their wedding in 1565. A plaque at the site tells this fascinating story.
One local resident shared their sadness, saying it’s been part of the community for decades. They called it “devastating” to see it go.
Currently, Glasgow is under a rare “danger to life” weather warning, with strong winds causing chaos. Many homes in Paisley are without power, and train services have been halted.
Flights have also been affected, with numerous cancellations and delays. The red weather warning is expected to last until 5 PM today.
