Houston: The Golden State Warriors faced off against the Houston Rockets in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup, but things didn’t go as planned. After the game, Steve Kerr was pretty upset about a call that he felt cost them the game. He’s even ready to pay a fine for his comments!
The controversial call happened when Curry missed a crucial three-pointer with just 11 seconds left. In the chaos for the loose ball, Jonathan Kumbinga was called for a foul on Jeff Green. That gave Green two free throws, which he made, sealing the win for Houston.
Kerr didn’t hold back in his postgame rant. He was really fired up, saying, “I’m pissed off. We wanted to win this Cup, and we aren’t going because of a loose ball foul, 80 feet from the basket.” He felt that the call was just ridiculous and shouldn’t have decided the game.
While Kerr’s frustration is understandable, the Warriors had other issues too. They turned the ball over seven times in the fourth quarter alone, which led to 14 points for the Rockets. They even had a six-point lead with just over a minute left but couldn’t hold on.
Most importantly, they didn’t score at all in the last three minutes of the game. Curry pointed out that this has been a recurring problem for the team. He said, “The pattern of scoreless droughts down the stretch has to be addressed, or else we’re going to be a mediocre team.”
Right now, the Warriors are sitting at 14-10, which isn’t great considering how competitive the Western Conference is. Curry knows they need to figure out how to create better scoring opportunities if they want to make a deeper run in the playoffs.
