Melbourne: This weekend is going to be a scorcher! Victorians are gearing up for some serious heat as temperatures are set to climb. The forecast shows Melbourne hitting a sweltering 38°C on both Saturday and Sunday.
With a total fire ban in effect for the southwest, it’s crucial to stay safe. The heatwave warning covers several areas, including Northern Country and East Gippsland. So, if you’re in those regions, keep an eye on the weather.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting that temps will rise from the high thirties to the low forties. Saturday night won’t be much cooler either, with minimums in the mid to high teens.
Sunday is expected to be the hottest day, but thankfully, a cool change is on the way from the west to bring some relief on Monday.
Areas like Ballarat, Shepparton, and Traralgon are likely to feel the heat, while Sydney will enjoy a more comfortable 29°C. However, Penrith in Sydney’s west is bracing for 38°C.
Canberra will be warm too, hitting around 34°C, while coastal Queensland stays around 30°C with a chance of light showers. Brisbane will see 28°C on Saturday and 29°C on Sunday.
Adelaide isn’t escaping the heat either, with a max of 36°C and warnings of extreme fire danger in the Mount Lofty Ranges. Meanwhile, Perth will be a bit cooler at 29°C, but northern WA is under a heatwave warning with temps soaring into the low to mid-forties.
As the heat rises, authorities have put a total fire ban in place, especially with ongoing fires in the Grampians region. CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan has warned that conditions will make it tough for firefighters if a fire breaks out.
Travelers are advised to stay alert and check fire danger ratings through the VicEmergency website or app. Stay safe out there!
