State to Appeal Two Sentences Deemed Inadequate by Authorities

The Queensland government is appealing two sentences it believes are too lenient for serious crimes.

Maryborough: So, the Queensland government is pretty upset about two sentences they think are way too light. They filed appeals because they feel these sentences just don’t cut it for what happened.

Attorney-General Deb Frecklington stepped in and lodged the appeals through the Director of Public Prosecutions. One case involves a young kid who stole a car and ended up crashing it, killing three people and injuring another.

That crash happened back in 2023, and it was a real tragedy. The kid, just 13, was driving a stolen Mercedes-Benz at crazy speeds when the accident occurred. He got six years in detention, but he could be out in just over two years. That’s what’s bothering a lot of folks.

The other case is about Brock Andrew McDonald, who did some pretty awful stuff to a young woman last October. He dragged her into a car after putting a rope around her neck. He got two-and-a-half years on parole, which also seems way too lenient to many.

Frecklington made it clear that she thinks both sentences are just not enough for the crimes committed. She said, “I consider both sentences handed down to be manifestly inadequate.” Now that the appeals are in motion, she’s not saying much more on the topic.
