London: So, here’s the scoop. If you’re a state pensioner born after 1948, you might want to check if you can snag some extra cash from the DWP. We’re talking about up to £737 a month! Sounds good, right?
Citizens Advice is saying that if you’re already getting Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you’ll keep getting it when you hit State Pension age. But here’s the catch: most folks can’t start a new PIP claim after they reach that age. However, if your PIP award ended in the last year, or if you were getting Disability Living Allowance (DLA) that stopped recently, you might still be in luck.
Just a heads up, if you were born before April 9, 1948, you can’t claim PIP. But don’t worry! You might be able to apply for Attendance Allowance instead. And if your health gets worse while you’re on PIP after reaching State Pension age, there are some extra rules that could help you get more support.
Citizens Advice also mentioned that if your last PIP claim ended less than a year ago, you might be able to make a new claim. Just remember, you can only claim for a medical condition if it’s the same one you claimed for before or if it’s related to a previous condition.
For instance, if you claimed for diabetes and now it’s affecting your eyesight, you can claim PIP for both. If you’re already on PIP when you hit State Pension age, the DWP usually gives you an indefinite award, which means no end date. They’ll check in every ten years, though.
And if you’re getting PIP when you reach that age, it’ll automatically turn into an indefinite award. If you’re looking for more help, Attendance Allowance pays out either £72.65 or £108.55 a week, depending on your care needs.
Citizens Advice also suggests checking out benefits like Pension Credit or Universal Credit, especially if you live with a partner who’s under State Pension age. These can help with living costs, like Winter Fuel Payments. So, it’s definitely worth looking into!
