London: So, there’s some buzz around Tulip Siddiq and her recent move to refer herself for an inquiry. A Cabinet minister, Peter Kyle, mentioned that the Prime Minister will definitely pay attention to the findings.

Apparently, Siddiq did the right thing by reaching out to the Parliamentary watchdog over some property allegations tied to her aunt’s political past in Bangladesh. It seems she’s been living in some London properties linked to her aunt, who used to be the prime minister over there.

She’s been pretty clear in saying she hasn’t done anything wrong, but it’s good she’s letting the independent adviser, Laurie Magnus, take a look at it. Kyle emphasized that the inquiry should run its course, which is a solid approach.

He compared this situation to a previous investigation involving Dame Priti Patel, where she was found guilty of bullying but faced no consequences. It sounds like they want to do things differently this time around.

On the flip side, some folks, like Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride, are calling for Starmer to let Siddiq go. They think it’s tough for her to keep her anti-corruption role with these serious accusations hanging over her head.

Starmer has backed Siddiq, saying she acted properly by referring herself. But there’s a lot of pressure on him now, especially with comments from Bangladeshi leader Muhammad Yunus, who wants a thorough investigation into the properties and even suggested they should be returned if they were obtained through corruption.

It’s a messy situation, especially since Siddiq’s aunt is under investigation back in Bangladesh for some serious allegations. It’s definitely a story to keep an eye on!
