Bradford: A new six-part drama called Virdee is coming soon. It follows DCI Harry Virdee, a cop caught between good and evil.

The show is based on a popular book series by AA Dhand, a local pharmacist turned author.

DCI Virdee’s love for his wife, Saima, has caused a rift with his family. They disapprove of their interfaith marriage.

Meanwhile, a turf war is heating up in Bradford. The police struggle to control gang rivalries.

When a young dealer is murdered, Harry needs help from his brother-in-law, Riaz. Riaz is a drugs kingpin running the largest cartel in the area.

Staz Nair plays the lead role. He’s known for his work in Game of Thrones and Supergirl.

Staz describes Virdee as a mix of genres. It combines crime thriller elements with family drama and gangland politics.

Harry is a man who will protect his loved ones at any cost. Each case he handles is personal.

Staz mentions a line from the first book that captures Harry’s moral struggle. It says, “the difference between right and wrong for Harry Virdee is as thin as a sheet of ice.”

He believes the show has something for everyone. It features high stakes, twists, and deep family drama.

Filming took place in various Bradford locations, including City Hall and Peel Park Terrace.

The theme music is composed by Hans Zimmer, known for his work on films like Inception and Gladiator.

Hans has a unique connection to Bradford. He writes music for a fictional woman named Doris who lives there.

Virdee will premiere on BBC One at 9 PM on February 10, 2025. Episodes will be released weekly.

Viewers can catch the episodes on BBC iPlayer.
