Perth: Stagecoach is making a comeback with the 16 bus service after locals rallied for it. The community really pushed for this, and it’s a win for everyone involved.
The service is expected to start up again in March, which is great news. Last year, they replaced the 16 with the 39 route, but that didn’t go so well. There were a lot of cancellations and delays, and folks were not happy.
Stagecoach listened to the complaints and decided to bring back the 16. It’ll run just like it did before, connecting Dundee bus station to Perth city center. That means hourly services through Errol and the Grange, which is super convenient.
Plus, it’ll be based out of the Perth depot, so it won’t get stuck in traffic coming from Arbroath through Dundee. That’s a big relief for everyone who relies on it.
Douglas Robertson, the managing director, mentioned how important feedback is for them. They’re always looking to improve and keep things running smoothly. They’re even talking with the local council about how to better serve areas like Glendoick.
First Minister John Swinney expressed his happiness about the service returning. He noted how much disruption the withdrawal caused, especially in the Carse of Gowrie. Local residents shared their stories, emphasizing how crucial this bus service is for getting to work, school, and healthcare.
It’s a great example of how local activism can make a difference. Pete Wishart, the MP, also chimed in, saying he hopes this will remind everyone of the importance of rural bus services. It’s a win for the community, and it’s nice to see their voices being heard.
