Staff Anger Over Closure of Romsey Visitor Information Centre
Staff at the Romsey Visitor Information Centre express frustration over the sudden closure and job losses, feeling blindsided by the decision

Tourism South East, which runs the centre, hasn’t commented yet. But the staff are worried about losing their jobs. They’ve been trying to diversify services, even selling antiques, to keep things fresh.
One staff member shared how stressful this year has been. They felt left in the dark about the contract renewal, which was supposed to happen last March. They weren’t allowed to argue for the centre’s value during a review that cost over £14,000.
Many locals rely on the centre for information, especially the elderly who need help with things like bus schedules and event tickets. Another staff member mentioned that the council is handing over the centre to King John’s House, and it’s tough for those who have dedicated years to this job.
Councillor Terese Swain from Test Valley Borough Council said an independent review showed that tourism is changing. More people are planning their visits online, so they want to focus on digital marketing instead. The current centre will become a new Tourist Information Point, offering digital info and a streamlined selection of leaflets.
