Beecroft: A speeding P-plater, Simon Mouait, is in the spotlight after a tragic crash that killed one woman and left another seriously injured. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving charges from the March 2023 incident.

Mouait, now 22, was driving his Toyota Hilux when he collided with another vehicle and hit two women walking nearby. Sadly, one woman died at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

During the hearing, Mouait admitted he was speeding and changing lanes quickly but insisted he wasn’t trying to thrill-seek. He said, “I just zoned out. Not in the right head space.”

In a surprising turn, a judge agreed to delay his sentencing after Mouait’s lawyers requested a psychiatric assessment. The judge expressed frustration over the timing of the request, noting it would prolong the process for the victims’ families.

Despite the serious nature of the case, Mouait will now spend Christmas at home, with sentencing pushed back to March 7. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, and the wait continues for the families affected by this tragedy.
