Spalding: A woman with over 93,000 followers on TikTok is feeling anxious about her business as a US ban looms. Jade Cundy is worried about how this will impact her online shop.
Today, the Supreme Court confirmed that the TikTok ban will go ahead, and Jade is concerned it could hurt her sales. She started her business, Painted Love Customs, as a way to cope after her son was born in 2016.
Jade creates custom prints inspired by tattoo art on items like leather jackets and Dr. Martens. Thanks to her large following on social media, she’s been able to ship her products worldwide.
Now, she’s brainstorming new ways to connect with customers if TikTok disappears. “The ban is a worry,” she said. “About 30% of my viewers are from the US, and losing that audience would be tough.”
She started posting videos in 2021, and credits TikTok for helping her business grow. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without it,” she added.
Jade believes it’s crucial for businesses to adapt. “It’s all about making that personal connection, especially with US customers,” she explained. “I’ll need to shift my content to appeal more to the UK market.”
She knows trends change quickly, and staying relevant is key. “You have to keep an eye on what people want,” she said. “It’s just part of running a business.”
The ban means US users won’t be able to download TikTok anymore, but those who already have it can still use it. However, they won’t get any updates.
To reach a wider audience, Jade is now using TikTok sounds in her painting videos. “I really feel for businesses in America,” she said. “There’s talk of moving to other apps, but nothing compares to TikTok.”
Despite the uncertainty, Jade isn’t slowing down. “I love TikTok. It’s about community, not just selling,” she said. “That’s what keeps me going.”
