Spalding: People feel safer with CCTV in town. New figures show the system helped with 22 arrests last year.
The Spalding Town Forum got an update on the roaming and static cameras. They cover the area and were involved in 82 incidents last year.
These cameras also provide evidence packs for the police. Coun Anthony Casson mentioned that many locals appreciate the added safety from the cameras.
Coun Gary Taylor pointed out that the data shows cameras also help search for missing people. About 17.5% of their use is for this purpose.
He noted that CCTV can protect vulnerable people, which is important for the community. The highest use of cameras, 37.5%, was for violence and sexual offences.
However, Coun Ingrid Sheard raised concerns about camera placement near public toilets. She believes they could be better positioned for effectiveness.
New cameras were installed in 18 key spots in 2022. Last year, Coun Aaron Spencer expressed doubts about their effectiveness after vandalism at his property.
Despite this, Insp Matt Dickinson defended the system. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
