Southend: The recent toy drive was a huge success, with a whopping 4,391 toys donated. Can you believe they used 628 meters of wrapping paper? Some gifts even had multiple toys inside.

It was heartwarming to see contributions from both individuals and local businesses like Corin Underwriters and Thorpe Hall School. Everyone really came together to make this happen.

This just shows how much the community cares about spreading joy during the holidays. The council also gave a shout-out to Argosy Toys and Toys ‘n’ Tuck for their help in collecting and delivering the toys.

Laurie Burton, the councillor in charge of children and learning, was really touched by the generosity. He said he was amazed by how everyone pitched in, from donations to wrapping and deliveries, all while juggling their regular jobs.

He added that it’s incredible to think about all the kids who might not have had a present this year but now have something special to open on Christmas Day.

This toy drive is all about love, community, and generosity, which is what Christmas is truly about. It’s an annual event that ensures every child gets a special gift during the holidays, bringing warmth to local families.

Over the last ten years, they’ve collected an impressive 35,800 donations, making a real difference for 15,275 children and young people in need.
