Southend: Mike Gray, managing director of Dedman Gray, is excited about a new project. It could really change things for Southend High Street. The plan involves renovating an empty building across from McDonald’s.

This property will have nine flats and a new retail space on the ground floor. Mr. Gray says there’s already interest from potential buyers.

Before, a Post Office was on the ground floor, with a gym above. Mr. Gray believes this project shows how combining residential and commercial spaces can help the High Street thrive.

He mentioned, “The building has been refurbished to a really good standard through a considerable amount of investment.”

Mike has years of experience in property sales around Southend. He thinks improving foot traffic and community feel is key to the High Street’s success.

He added, “I’ve seen other town centers where more residential options boost activity and the night economy.”

Mike wants to see more upper floors converted into homes. “We need to get more residents living near the High Street,” he said.

Recently, Southend High Street has lost several big-name stores, including Clinton Cards.

Cllr Anne Jones, a Labour councillor, supports the project. She believes living in the city center offers great opportunities for everyone.

She said, “Our city center, including the High Street, has a mix of recreation and eateries that attract buyers and businesses.”
