South West Drivers Face 18 Mile Diversion as Road Closes for a Week

Roadworks near Launceston will force drivers to take an 18-mile detour for a week, impacting travel times significantly

Launceston: So, here’s the scoop. Starting next week, drivers are in for a bit of a hassle. There’s going to be a road closure for some work, and it’s going to mean an 18-mile detour.

This is all happening because South West Water is putting in a new water supply along the B3254. The closure will be in effect 24/7 from January 20 to January 28, so mark your calendars.

Even though the closed section is less than a mile, the detour is a real doozy. It’ll add over half an hour to your travel time, so if you’re planning to use that road, it’s best to think ahead.

On the bright side, Cornwall Council has said they’ll keep emergency access open. Plus, residents and businesses will still be able to get in and out, which is a relief.

The detour will take drivers back along the B3254 towards Congdon’s Shop, then they’ll head to Kelly Bray. After that, it’s the A388 towards Treburley and into Launceston. If you’re heading to South Petherwin, you’ll be directed to Pennygillam Industrial Estate to get back on the B3254.
