Abergavenny: There’s a trail in Monmouthshire that’s really catching attention. It’s got amazing views and ends at a lovely pub, making it one of the best winter walks in the UK.

Imagine taking a brisk winter walk and then cozying up in a pub with a warm fire, a pint, and a hearty meal. Sounds perfect, right?

With so many beautiful walking paths in South Wales, it can be tough to choose just one. But The Times, with journalist Christopher Somerville, has put together a list of the top 20 winter walks in the UK.

Somerville encourages everyone to bundle up and enjoy the stunning winter scenery. He paints a picture of walking through frosty woods, admiring bare trees, and even catching sight of wintering geese against a colorful sky.

He also mentions the joy of reaching a hilltop for breathtaking views and then heading down to a warm pub for a hot drink. Sounds like a great day out!

The Skirrid in Monmouthshire is the only Welsh trail on this list. It’s a six-and-a-half-mile hike that’s a bit challenging but totally worth it for the views and the cozy pub at the end.

Somerville describes it as a “strenuous short climb” with some tricky bits, but the payoff is fantastic. You get to see the beautiful Welsh Borders from the top before heading down to the Skirrid Inn for some warmth and cheer.

If you’re thinking of checking it out, you can start your walk at the Skirrid Inn. Just follow the signs and enjoy the journey!
