South London: The old toilet block in Kennington is getting a makeover. It’s turning into a florist, and it’s pretty exciting!

These loos were rumored to be used by Charlie Chaplin when he was a kid. They closed down back in 1988, but now they’re coming back to life.

Lambeth councillors are meeting soon to approve the plans. The new florist will have a flower fridge and bins, making it a lovely spot to grab some blooms.

They’ll keep the urinals but remove the wash basins. The old Victorian features will be cleaned and refurbished, giving them a fresh look.

Some graffiti from the 1980s, which is linked to the LGBTQ community, will be taken down. But the council is keeping photos of it for history.

These toilets were built in 1900, thanks to a law that required public toilets. They’ve got white tiled walls and a cool mosaic floor.

In 2001, they were listed as Grade-II by English Heritage. They even served as an art gallery for a few years, from 2013 to 2017.

Last year, there were plans to turn them into a cocktail bar, but that didn’t happen. Now, the florist idea seems to be the right fit.

The planning documents say this new shop will be stylish and good for the community. The council is expected to give the green light soon.
