South Kesteven: The council is pushing ahead with plans to hike green waste collection fees. They want to raise the cost of emptying the first green bin from £51 to £53. For additional bins, the price will go up from £42 to £44.
This decision came after a cabinet meeting on January 16. Initially, the officers suggested just a £1 increase for both garden and bulky waste collections. But the environment committee decided against raising the bulky waste fee, noting how popular the garden waste service is, with 36,000 subscriptions.
For new customers, the first year of service costs £79. This includes £28 for the bin and £12 for delivery. The cabinet also mentioned that there won’t be any increases for bus station departure charges or market stall fees.
Earlier in the week, council leader Ashley Baxter said raising traders’ fees wasn’t worth the hassle. New parking charges at council car parks will kick in on January 20, affecting both short- and long-stay options in Stamford and Grantham.
During the meeting, Baxter called the proposed green waste fee increase “fair.” He explained that while the council doesn’t like raising charges, they have to do it because of inflation. The proposal still needs final approval from the full council as part of the draft budget for 2025/26.
