Chard: The beloved independent bookshop is closing down after six years. The final day will be Saturday, February 1, and what happens next is still up in the air.

A spokesperson for the shop mentioned that it’s been tough to keep the business afloat, despite their best efforts. They really appreciate the support from the Chard community.

The team feels proud of their time in Chard, saying, “We’ve had an amazing six years providing for the community. Thank you to everyone who supported us.”

They added that every visit and kind word meant a lot to them. It’s clear the community has made a big impact on their journey.

Throughout January, the bookshop has been running a closing down sale with 40% off, except for books by local authors. They’ve also reduced their hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

If you want to say goodbye, next Friday and Saturday will be your last chance to visit. A customer even thanked co-founder Stevie Kesham for everything they’ve done.

Adam Dance MP Responds to the Closure

Adam Dance, the MP for South Somerset and Yeovil, expressed his sadness over the closure. He believes Chard has a lot of potential and losing local shops highlights the struggles of high streets.

He pointed out that business rates are a big issue, suggesting a new approach to support local businesses. He’s committed to advocating for changes that help shops thrive.
