London: This weekend, engineers are set to work on the tracks between London Bridge and West Hampstead. So, if you’re planning to travel on January 18 and 19, be aware that no Thameslink trains will be running between London Bridge and London St Pancras or Finsbury Park.
Also, services between London Blackfriars and Sutton will be cancelled in both directions, whether you’re heading via Wimbledon or Mitcham Junction.
The work is necessary to renew switches and crossings, which help trains change tracks, especially in Clerkenwell. Plus, there’s some additional work happening at Agar Grove bridge in Camden.
Just a heads up, this comes right after a previous disruption where Thameslink trains were out of service for over a week due to bridge repairs.
This weekend’s closure will help workers reinstall trackside lighting, fix up the brickwork, and put in new drainage gutters at the bridge, according to Thameslink.
The track closure will also affect some East Midlands Railway services. Daniel Matthews, the operations director for Network Rail’s east Midlands route, expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience during these improvements.
He also encouraged everyone to check their travel plans via National Rail Enquiries or their train operator before heading out.
While some routes will be affected, Thameslink trains will still run on an amended timetable.
For instance, trains will still operate between London St Pancras International and Luton/Bedford, but they won’t stop at Kentish Town.
Other routes like London Bridge to Three Bridges, and London Victoria to Sevenoaks will also continue, but with some stops skipped.
East Midlands Railway will run a limited service to and from London St Pancras, with one train per hour from Corby, Nottingham, and Sheffield.
