Snow Sneaks In as Major Temperature Rollercoaster Hits the Prairies
A wild temperature swing is set to hit the Prairies, bringing snow and tricky travel conditions this weekend as Arctic and Pacific air clash
Prairies, Alberta, Manitoba, Fort McMurray, Calgary, Winnipeg
Fort McMurray: This weekend, the Prairies are in for a wild ride with temperatures swinging all over the place. Arctic air is battling it out with milder Pacific air, and guess what? Snow is on the way!
A low-pressure system is rolling in from northern Alberta, moving south toward Manitoba. So, if you’re in the northern parts, you might see some snow starting Friday morning.
Places like Fort McMurray will get hit first, and there’s even a chance of freezing rain in areas like Slave Lake and Lloydminster. So, keep an eye on the roads if you’re traveling.
The heaviest snow will fall along the Saskatchewan and Manitoba border, with 5 to 15 cm expected by Saturday morning. That means slick roads, so plan your trips wisely!
As we head into Friday night, flurries could pop up in eastern Alberta, stretching all the way into Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba. And don’t forget, it’s going to be breezy along the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, which might lead to some blowing snow.
By Sunday morning, the flurries should wrap up, but the temperature differences are going to be crazy! While Alberta warms up, Manitoba will stay chilly.
We’re talking about a 17°C difference between Calgary and Winnipeg, and a whopping 32°C spread from Lethbridge to Churchill! It’s going to feel like two different worlds.
After this weekend, colder-than-usual temperatures are expected in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but don’t worry, milder Pacific air will start to move in mid-week. Just be ready for another cold snap later next week!
