Snow and Ice Expected in Northern Europe as Gas Supplies Dwindle
Northern Europe braces for snow and ice as gas stocks drop rapidly, impacting energy supply and weather conditions across the region

London: The UK is gearing up for some serious winter weather. Snow and ice are on the way, and it looks like Nordic countries are in for a chill too. Gas supplies are running low, and it’s happening faster than we’ve seen in a while.
There’s a yellow warning out for snow and ice in Scotland and parts of England. This comes after a stormy couple of days. The Met Office is saying we can expect more snow alerts through Monday.
Dan Holley, the deputy chief forecaster, mentioned there’s still some uncertainty about where the worst snow will hit. But it seems like Wales, northern England, and the Midlands might see the most impact.
Meanwhile, the winter storm that swept through the UK is now making its way to Norway and Sweden. In Oslo, temperatures could plummet to around -15C (5F) by Sunday. That’s pretty cold!
If you’re into skiing, Mont Blanc resorts like Chamonix in France and Courmayeur in Italy are expecting over a meter of snow this week. Perfect for hitting the slopes!
Overall, Europe is looking at a colder-than-usual January. This is likely to ramp up energy demand just as gas storages are depleting quickly. Plus, with the Ukraine-Russia pipeline deal ending, the region is losing a major gas supply source.
