BOSTON: So, the Sixers had a bit of a rollercoaster ride before their Christmas game. Just 45 minutes before tip-off, Joel Embiid, while warming up, took a tumble and twisted his ankle. It looked bad for a moment, but thankfully, he just shook it off.
Embiid ended up scoring 27 points, leading the Sixers to a 118-114 victory over the Celtics. He joked about his ankle being “just a little sore” and said, “It’s Christmas. Got to play on Christmas.”
Despite being short-handed, the Sixers really stepped up. They were missing a few key players, but that didn’t stop them from outplaying the Celtics for most of the game. Caleb Martin had a standout performance, hitting a career-high seven three-pointers.
Head coach Nick Nurse talked about the tough luck the team has faced this season but emphasized the importance of staying focused and working hard. And it seems like that hard work paid off this time.
Tyrese Maxey was on fire, scoring 33 points and dishing out 12 assists. He mentioned wanting to redeem himself after a rough game last Christmas. Embiid chimed in, teasing him about it, which just shows the good vibes in the locker room.
They also had a perfect night at the free-throw line, going 19 for 19, which is a nice change. The team kept their turnovers low, which is something they’ve struggled with this season.
Even though the Celtics made a late push, the Sixers held their ground. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown tried to rally the Celtics, but it wasn’t enough. Embiid feels like the team has a lot of potential and just needs to keep improving and stay healthy.
