London: So, Sir Steve Redgrave had a bit of a tumble while rehearsing for Dancing on Ice, and it’s got everyone a bit on edge. The guy’s 62 and has some health issues, which made the crew pretty nervous about him being on the show.
He’s set to hit the ice when the show returns on January 12, 2025, but he shared that he fell just a few days into practice. He’s dealing with colitis, diabetes, and even a frozen shoulder, which sounds rough.
Steve mentioned in an interview that the fall aggravated his shoulder, and he even pulled a hip flexor. The production team was really worried, saying they needed to “wrap him up in cotton wool” to keep him safe. They’ve given him protective gear, but he hasn’t even tried it on yet!
His family, though, seems to be taking it all in stride. He’s been married to Ann since 1988, and they have three kids together. He joked that they’re used to him doing “nutty things” and are actually excited to see him compete.
He said his kids think he’s a bit crazy for doing this, but they’re looking forward to it. His eldest daughter is a plastic surgeon in Swansea and has a little one of her own, so he’s not sure if she’ll be able to watch him skate.
Steve will be competing alongside some familiar faces like Chelsee Healey from Hollyoaks and Ferne McCann from TOWIE. He even shared that this whole thing started as a joke with his fellow Olympians, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, during their 40th anniversary celebrations.
It’s wild how a little joke turned into him actually being on the show! Can’t wait to see how he does on the ice!
