London: So, Sir Steve Redgrave had a bit of a tumble while rehearsing for Dancing on Ice. The crew was pretty anxious about him joining the show, given his health issues.
At 62, the retired rowing champ is gearing up for the ITV1 skating competition, which kicks off on January 12, 2025. But just a few days into rehearsals, he took a fall that didn’t help his already tricky health situation.
He shared with The Sunday Mirror that he’s dealing with colitis, diabetes, and a frozen shoulder. Ouch! He mentioned that the fall aggravated his shoulder, making things a bit tough during practice.
Steve joked about how the production team was worried and said they felt like they had to “wrap him up in cotton wool” to keep him safe for the show. They’ve given him protective gear, but he hasn’t even tried it on yet.
His family, including his wife Ann and their three kids, are used to his adventurous spirit. They think he’s a bit bonkers for doing this but are excited to see him compete.
He laughed, saying his kids are all grown up now, with one even being a plastic surgeon in Swansea. He’s not sure if she’ll be able to watch him skate with her own little one at home.
Steve will be sharing the ice with other celebs like Chelsee Healey from Hollyoaks and Ferne McCann from TOWIE. He revealed that this whole thing started as a joke with his pals Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, celebrating their 40th anniversary of winning Olympic gold.
He had teased them about getting him on the show, and now, here he is, ready to hit the ice!
