Castle Donington: East Midlands Airport is gearing up for some exciting changes as it turns 60 this year. They’re planning a big £120 million upgrade that kicks off in 2025.
Last year, they started the first phase of this project. They’ve already added a new bar, upgraded toilets, and even expanded the JD Sports shop. Plus, there are new seats in the departure lounge for everyone to relax in.
They’re not stopping there! New baggage trolleys and a multi-faith room have been introduced, along with better air traffic control equipment. The runways have been resurfaced, and they’ve installed energy-efficient LED lights. The security hall is also getting a makeover to fit in new scanning tech.
Speaking of security, they’re making it easier for travelers. The new setup lets you keep your electronics and liquids in your cabin bags, which is a real time-saver.
They’re also upgrading more toilets in the departure lounge, adding baby changing facilities, and redesigning the drop-off area to make it easier for everyone. Wider pavements and clearer crossings will help pedestrians navigate better.
New kiosks for customer info are popping up, and they’re creating a lost property hub just in time for summer. Plus, they’ve added electric vehicle charging points around the airport. They even have the UK’s first fully-electric ambulift to help passengers with mobility issues.
Steve Griffiths, the managing director, is excited about these changes. He said they’re looking forward to celebrating 60 years of operations and are committed to improving the experience for travelers. It’s all about meeting the needs of today’s passengers and providing top-notch service.
