Nerul: The second day of the Frames Film Festival was quite a treat! It was organized by the BAMMC Department of SIES, and they screened some amazing documentaries and animations for the judges.
The highlight? A selection of seven powerful documentaries that really tugged at the heartstrings. In the afternoon, they showcased a bunch of animation films that ran for about an hour. It was all about creativity and storytelling!
This three-day festival wraps up on January 10, when they’ll announce the winners. The theme this year, Nayaab, really resonated with everyone. It’s all about celebrating unique and hidden gems in storytelling.
There were some thought-provoking documentaries that reflected real-life issues, while the animated films took us to some fantastical places. A guest even mentioned how the day showed the true power of cinema in sparking conversations.
The judges included Sanjo Talpade, known for his work on Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, and Bollywood director Saandesh Naik. They watched the documentaries that highlighted resilience and environmental efforts.
One film followed a young cook and an artist helping trash picker kids in Bali, while another focused on NGOs protecting wildlife in Costa Rica. There were stories from Bangladesh about a tiger widow and a family in Brazil preserving their culture.
Each documentary got a warm reception, with the audience really connecting with the filmmakers’ hard work. After the screenings, the judges shared their thoughts, praising the creativity and depth of the films.
Then came the animation segment, which kicked off with a fun intro about how animation can take us to magical worlds. The judges for this category were Damandeep Singh Baggan and Ashok Kaul, who also shared their insights on the evolving animation industry.
The animated films explored various emotional struggles. One short thriller, “They Meet Tomorrow,” blurred the lines between reality and imagination. Another, “Piano,” told a touching story about longing amid war.
“Single or Return” depicted a daughter missing her workaholic dad, while “Fael” took us on a journey through a toxic forest with a young native guide. The Q&A session at the end was lively, with the audience eager to engage with the judges.
As the day wrapped up, there was a sense of excitement for what’s next. A student summed it up perfectly: “The second day really captured the essence of Frames—bringing stories to life and celebrating creativity!”
