Sydney: A wild scene unfolded on New Year’s Eve when a man was extradited from Queensland after allegedly firing shots at police during a chase.
It all started around 1:20 AM in Edensor Park when cops got a call about someone trying to break into a home.
Two armed suspects jumped into a white Hyundai and took off. Police spotted the car on Cowpasture Rd but the driver wouldn’t pull over.
They began a pursuit but had to call it off for safety reasons. It was a tense situation.
During the chase, shots were reportedly fired at the police car, hitting the bonnet. Thankfully, no officers were hurt.
The car eventually crashed on St Andrews Rd after road spikes were deployed. The driver, a 20-year-old named Faez Finau, was arrested, but his passenger managed to escape.
When police searched the vehicle, they found two pistols, an assault rifle, and other weapons, along with spent cartridges.
Finau is facing multiple charges and is currently in court. Meanwhile, the passenger remains at large.
On January 3, another 20-year-old was arrested at Brisbane Airport and charged with serious offenses, including armed break and enter.
He’s been denied bail and is set to appear in court soon.
It turns out Finau and the homeowner are linked to an organized crime network, raising concerns about gang activity.
Police Deputy Commissioner Peter Thurtell mentioned that two shots were fired at the police car, narrowly missing officers and their K9s.
“This was a very dangerous situation where the lives of our police officers were put at risk,” he said.
