Shoebury: Residents near the Bellway development site are frustrated. They say loud noises disrupt their daily lives as construction gets underway.
The developers are installing drainage systems before raising the land. This project has caused tension with locals in the past.
In 2023, a petition gathered 1,300 signatures. Residents worry about the impact of heavy earth deliveries on their homes.
Peter Lovett, chair of the Shoebury Residents Association, often hears the noise. He describes it as a whining sound that travels far.
He’s received complaints from at least five residents about the noise. Lovett is checking if the site has noise restrictions.
He notes that the piling rig hasn’t finished the first zone yet. There’s still a lot of work ahead.
Lovett emphasizes that while they can’t stop the development, they will keep raising concerns with the council.
Construction began in late October, with diggers preparing the ground for building.
A Bellway spokesperson stated they are installing a drainage system and will soon start land raising. They claim noise levels are within guidelines.
