Kiama: So, a bunch of families were having a chill morning at the beach when suddenly, a dark shape popped up next to a kid on a paddleboard. Yikes! People started shouting to get the boy’s attention, and thankfully, he made it back to shore without bothering the estimated 2.5-meter shark.
After that, the lifesavers decided to close Easts Beach. Ian Altman, a photographer and dad from Sydney, was on holiday nearby and witnessed the whole thing. But wait, it gets even crazier! Not long after the shark sighting, a stingray washed up on the beach, and it had some serious bite marks on it.
Ian explained that a lifeguard and a few others pulled the stingray in, and it caused quite a stir. He even grabbed his camera to capture the moment as they dragged the 1.5-meter stingray, which was missing a big chunk of its back, into a hole they dug in the sand.
Then, a crowd gathered to help give the poor creature a proper burial by flicking sand over it. Ian mentioned that everyone was fascinated yet saddened by the sight. The shark’s teeth marks were still visible, and people were relieved it wasn’t a person that got hurt.
Kids from the caravan park were all over the place, excited to see the stingray on the beach. It turned into quite the talk of the park! Ian, who’s been visiting this cove for years, said he’d never seen a shark there before. Luckily, the beach reopened about an hour later, and the excitement lingered in the air.
