Worcester: The Severn Way is a 210-mile path along the River Severn, but it’s in pretty rough shape. It connects to a bridge on the west side, but bad weather and disrepair have made it tough to walk or cycle.

Tor Pingree, a city councillor for St Clement, is really concerned about it. He’s been trying to get the county council to do something about the path but hasn’t heard back.

He mentioned, “I’ve emailed Simon Geraghty a bunch of times, but no one’s said anything about fixing it.” It’s not just him; many locals are worried about the path’s condition. If they want the new Kepax Bridge to be a hit, they need to sort out the path.

Right now, the Severn Way isn’t a pleasant route at all. Worcestershire County Council looks after it for 39 miles, but it’s hard to walk or cycle along the west bank. People are forced to use the busy Hallow Road instead.

Cllr Pingree pointed out that Hallow Road is dangerous for cyclists since there are no bike lanes. He’s had some close calls while riding there and tries to avoid it when he can.

Despite residents and councillors suggesting improvements, it seems the Severn Way will stay as it is for now. A spokesperson for the county council said there are no plans to upgrade the path.

But Cllr Pingree isn’t giving up. He wants to see better planning in the area. “The county council just opened a new walking and cycling bridge, but they need to care more about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists,” he said.
