Shropshire: The Severn Valley Railway recently shared updates about a landslip. They posted new images showing the damage and thanked everyone who donated for repairs.
The railway will open to the public on February 15. This will include a 12-mile section of the line that remains unaffected.
Chris Bond, the head of infrastructure, mentioned that specialist engineers are involved. Network Rail will send a team of experts later this week to help.
They are gathering information about the landslip. This includes drilling boreholes to understand what’s beneath the surface. This data is crucial for planning repairs.
Bond emphasized the importance of not rushing the investigation. They want to ensure the repairs are effective and long-lasting.
Last Wednesday, staff discovered a large landslip, making the line impassable. It affected a 30-meter section between Bridgnorth and Hampton Loade.
After an appeal for help, the railway received nearly £36,000 in donations. Many supporters also offered practical assistance.
Managing director Jonathan ‘Gus’ Dunster expressed gratitude for the community’s support. He noted how much it means to have people willing to help.
They also received offers from companies and individuals wanting to volunteer when the time is right. This support will significantly aid their efforts.
With half-term services starting on February 15, the railway reassures passengers they can travel on the unaffected section. They are contacting those who booked from Bridgnorth to offer alternatives.
The new Boogie Lights Express experience will also start as planned on February 28. To donate to the SVR Resilience Fund, visit their website.
