A memorial service for former Sen. Richard Colburn will take place on January 2 in Cambridge, following his passing on December 27.

Cambridge: A memorial service is set for former state Senator Richard Colburn, who passed away recently at the age of 74. The service will be held on January 2 at Open Bible Church.
Visitation starts at 10 a.m. and goes until noon, followed by the memorial service. His burial will be private, as per the arrangements made by the funeral home.
Colburn was a well-known figure on the Eastern Shore, representing several counties in Maryland for nearly 30 years. He was a Republican and served in both the House of Delegates and the Senate.
He first entered politics in 1983 and had a long career, even after losing his Senate seat in 2015. Colburn was later appointed to work with the Maryland Agriculture Secretary.
He was known for being a steady conservative voice, advocating for farmers and rural communities. Many remember him fondly, including Rep. Andy Harris, who highlighted Colburn’s dedication to veterans and first responders.
Born in 1950, Colburn served in the Army before returning to the Shore to work in various roles, including town manager in Federalsburg. He retired from the Department of Agriculture in 2022.
Colburn leaves behind his wife, daughter, granddaughter, and many friends and family who will miss him dearly.
