Newport: So, here’s the scoop. Gwent Police had to close the M4 westbound at Junction 28 because they were worried about a woman on a bridge. It was right over the Forge Road Roundabout.

They took this step as a safety measure while they worked to get her to safety. Traffic was a total mess for a while, especially for folks trying to get between Bassaleg and Newport town center, or heading to Cardiff.

The roads were shut down around 4:45 PM and thankfully reopened just before 6 PM. If you were caught in that jam, you probably sat there for about an hour.

A police spokesperson mentioned they got the call around 4:35 PM about the woman’s welfare. Officers quickly responded and managed to bring her to safety.

At the time, the M4 westbound between junctions 28 and 29, along with Forge Road from Tredegar House roundabout to Bassaleg, were closed but are now back open.
