Secret of LA wildfire ‘miracle’ house that became only one in street to survive

Malibu: A stunning £8 million house in Malibu somehow became the only one on its street to survive the devastating wildfires that swept through LA.

David Steiner, the owner, was amazed to see his three-story white home untouched while others around it were destroyed. He believes it’s no coincidence that his 4,200-square-foot, four-bedroom house stood strong against the flames.

According to him, the house was built to endure earthquakes, featuring stucco and stone walls, a fireproof roof, and deep pilings to anchor it to the bedrock below.

Steiner, who used to run a waste management company, shared that he never thought a wildfire could reach the Pacific Coast Highway and ignite a fire so close to his home.

He thought the house would be safe from earthquakes, but wildfires? That was a surprise. He praised the architecture, especially the fireproof features that helped save his home.

At 64, originally from Texas, Steiner was shocked to learn his house had survived. He expected it to go up in flames like so many others. “It’s a miracle – miracles never cease,” he said.

While he was away, a contractor sent him updates, including a video showing flames near his home, which was vacant at the time. It was a tense moment as he watched the destruction around him.

People started reaching out, saying his house was making headlines. When he finally saw photos, he couldn’t believe it—his home was still standing amidst the wreckage.

After the fires, friends flooded his phone with messages of support, but he was quick to remind them that material things can be replaced. “I lost a property, but others lost their homes,” he said.

Even though the Malibu house is significant, it’s not where his family keeps their cherished memories. He expressed his sympathy for those who lost everything in the fires.

His wife even sent him a message saying, “Last house standing,” which brought a smile to his face during such a tough time.
