Caerphilly: So, Cllr Sean Morgan, the leader of the Caerphilly County Borough Council, recently apologized for the mess with bin collections during Christmas. He admitted that things didn’t go as smoothly as they usually do and promised to fix it.

He explained that collections were fine until Christmas Eve, but then a bunch of issues popped up. There were problems with staff management, leave schedules, and even some sickness absences that really threw a wrench in the works. Morgan mentioned that they usually handle around 40,000 collections daily, which is a lot, but this holiday season was a bit of a wake-up call.

Cllr Lindsay Whittle, who leads the Plaid Cymru group, said it was nice of Morgan to apologize. He pointed out that most people don’t usually complain about waste collections, but it was unfortunate that some residents had to wait weeks for their bins to be emptied. Whittle also noted that the collection crews deserve respect, especially since they work hard in all kinds of weather.

Morgan reassured everyone that collections are back on track now and praised the staff for their efforts to catch up. He acknowledged that while food waste was collected quickly, other types of waste had to wait a bit longer. He really appreciated the frontline workers who kept going during the busy holiday season while most of us were enjoying our time off.
