Squamish: So, there’s been a mudslide on the Sea to Sky Highway, and it’s causing quite a mess. The road is totally closed in both directions, and it’s all because of some fallen trees and debris near Lions Bay.
The RCMP says it’s not looking good for a quick reopening—midnight is the earliest they expect to clear things up. And guess what? There are no detours available, so folks are stuck.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported yet, but emergency crews are still checking things out to make sure everyone is okay. It’s a bit chaotic, with photos and videos popping up on social media showing the blocked road.
Many skiers and snowboarders are feeling the pinch, too. They were all set to head back to Vancouver after a day on the slopes at Whistler-Blackcomb, but now they’re stranded in Squamish.
Take Emily and Scott, for example. They woke up early to hit the slopes, hoping to squeeze in a full day before catching a flight to Toronto for Christmas. They had a blast skiing but had to cut their trip short when they heard about the closure.
Scott mentioned they were pretty bummed out. They even tried to take a long detour to get home, but heavy snow made them turn back for safety. Now, they’re just hoping the highway opens up soon so they can make their flight.
Drive BC is on it, saying there are trees blocking the road, and they’re working on an assessment. The Ministry of Transportation is asking everyone to steer clear of the area while they sort things out.
It’s a waiting game now, and drivers are encouraged to keep an eye on DriveBC for updates. Fingers crossed it clears up soon!
